Degree in History – Access – Recommended profile for new students

The student profile of this Degree focuses on promoting, enhancing and developing to the maximum the knowledge and skills necessary for the student to be able to develop efficiently and globally in these areas. For this purpose, the student of the Degree in History must have acquired the basic, generic, specific, idiomatic and entrepreneurial competences related in the same section of this report.

The student wishing to study the Degree in History must have skills that allow him/her to integrate and manage the knowledge acquired during the training period. However, success in this Degree not only depends on the initial abilities, but also on the work during the Degree and his/her motivation to be a trained and responsible professional. The following are important values:

  • Interest in the study of subjects, particularly those related to history, culture, art, philosophy, geography and the different languages.
  • Interest and taste for reading as a means of personal and professional enrichment.
  • Readiness for dialoguing, plurality and tolerance towards different cultural manifestations.
  • Predisposition to carry out initiatives, studies and other actions as a complement and alternative to the programmed teachings.
  • Willingness to carry out studies in other universities and in other countries in order to perfect the knowledge acquired.
  • Eagerness to overcome communication barriers accepting errors as part of the communication process.
  • Willingness to accept the uncertainty of learning a language, using all the resources available to maintain communication.
  • Willingness to group work and critical exchange of ideas.

Likewise, the student who wishes to study the Degree in History must have basic knowledge of a linguistic, literary and cultural nature:

  • Linguistics: students must be familiar with the principles and units of grammatical description through the subjects studied in previous years of Spanish Language. They must know the grammar and be able to apply their knowledge in accordance with the provisions of the RD access to university studies. Be able to write, and it would be advisable to be able to recognize the symbols of the international phonetic alphabet for the use of dictionaries, to have a reading habit and a critical spirit. The student must possess the aptitudes that allow his/her to integrate and manage the knowledge acquired during the formative period.
  • Literary: the student should have basic literary knowledge related to literature in the Spanish language: authors, periods, works and genres, and their relationship with other literatures.
  • Cultural: the student should have basic knowledge of some of the facts, figures and fundamental institutions that have shaped history and its most well-known originated cultural manifestations, such as cinema, music and fine arts.
Annually, the Entry Profile is measured in the new students, and an assessment of the results and of the improvement proposals is made by the Degree Coordinator, and the improvement proposals that may be convenient are taken to the Faculty Board for approval if appropriate.
