Degree in History – Teaching plan – General structure of the Degree
The syllabus is organised according to a structure of Modules and Subjects. The proposed Modules and Subjects are coherent with the general objectives and guarantee the acquisition of the competences of the degree.
In order to adapt the map of degrees to the demand, it was decided to propose a joint action plan that would comply with the recommendations of the Dictamen del Parlamento de Andalucía on the Andalusian University System of 2001, the agreements of the Academic Commission of the CAU and the Governing Council of the University of Cadiz.
In accordance with the guidelines developed in the Real Decreto 1393/2007 of 29th October, the first year of student enrolment is made up of basic common subjects. Of these subjects, 36 credits have been established at Andalusian level while the remaining twenty-four credits have been left to the discretion of each university.
- Distribution of the syllabus in ECTS credits, by type of subject.
The Graduate Degree in History is structured in such a way that the full-time student must complete 240 ECTS over four years, thus complying with the provisions of Real Decreto 1393/2007. This total includes 60 credits corresponding to basic training subjects, the rest being distributed in compulsory subjects, optional subjects, external internships and the Final Degree Project, as indicated in the following table:
Students will be able to configure their Study Plan by taking all the Basic Training subjects (60 credits) and Compulsory subjects that make up the core of the Degree (114 credits plus the 6 credits of the Final Degree Project). These contents are in accordance with what has been established by the Andalusian Council of Universities to define the proposed Bachelor’s Degree, and have the support of the social agents represented in the Plenary of this Coordinating Body of the Andalusian University System.
Taking into account their interests, and with the necessary advice from the guidance system of the Centre, the student studying this Degree at the University of Cadiz must complete 60 optional credits according to the following options: taking reinforcement subjects of specific contents of the degree and modules oriented towards a specific curricular profile, or taking subjects or training activities authorised by the Governing Council of the University; either from among those included in other degrees, or specifically created and oriented towards their comprehensive training. In any case, students may request the recognition of up to 6 credits for university activities: cultural, sporting, student representation, solidarity and cooperation.
The aim of this proposal is to provide a better response to the social and vocational demands of students, in accordance with the provisions of Art. 56.3 of the Andalusian Law on Universities. It will be up to the Governing Council, in view of the proposals made by the Centre, to determine which contents may broaden the specific optional offer of the degree.
Therefore, and without entering into contradiction with what is expressed in the previous paragraph and in order to allow training in the specific itineraries of the Degree in Humanities, the student will be recommended to take the elective subjects in the following way:
1) By taking the optional subjects of curricular complementary and those that make up the modules of one of the two itineraries foreseen in the syllabus.
2) By taking the optional subjects of curricular reinforcement and 4 optional subjects of those that make up the modules of one of the two itineraries foreseen in the syllabus and the recognition of up to 6 credits for:
- external placements, up to a maximum of 6 credits, in addition to those that may be compulsory.
- taking courses, courses and workshops aimed at the acquisition of transversal competences, offered by the University, and which are appropriate to the degree: Languages, IT, Entrepreneurship, as determined by the Governing Council.
- taking courses and activities aimed at the integral training of the student, offered by the University, according to the list to be determined and updated by the Governing Council, and chosen in such a way as to complement those specific to the degree programme.
- recognition of credits for participation in activities contemplated in art. 12.8 of RD 1393/2007 [Following art. 46.2.i of Ley Orgánica 6/2001, of 21 December, on Universities, according to which students may obtain academic recognition in credits for participation in university cultural, sporting, student representation, solidarity and cooperation activities.
In order to be eligible for the Final Degree Project, the student must have passed 60 credits of basic training and 114 credits of compulsory training. The student must complete and submit a memory work demonstrating the skills associated with the degree he has acquired over the years of study. The tutoring of these works will be carried out by the faculty of the University of Cadiz involved in the teaching of specific subjects of the historical discipline.
The external internship experience is optional and can be carried out for a total of 6 credits during the fourth year of the degree. Will be offered in principle to a pre-established number of students, which the Faculty will maintain and which will increase course after course throughout the implementation of the Curriculum, in accordance with the conclusion of appropriate agreements with companies and administrations. The Faculty will organize and evaluate the external internships with the purpose of making it a real learning tool and an initiation of students into the professional world.
The distribution of subjects into courses and semesters reflects the organization of the offer by the school, but is intended as a guide for the student, who may take these credits at the time he or she deems appropriate and with the distribution that he or she wishes, but always subject to the general limitations imposed by the University and those contemplated in this memorandum.
Within the scope of the option, two itineraries called History of International Relations and Cultural History will be offered to the student. The first will train the student to perform technical advisory and management tasks in national and international public bodies and, At the same time, it will empower them to participate actively in the design and management of development cooperation projects. The second has as its basic objective to train the student to be able to design and manage projects within the cultural field and intervene in the Historical Heritage.

- Coordination mechanisms of the title.
Overall, the proposed modules constitute a coherent and feasible proposal, ensuring the acquisition of the skills of the degree. In order to achieve the development of the competences proposed within the framework of the EHEA, various activities for teaching-learning will be developed, among which are: theoretical class, practical class, theoretical-practical class, debate, exhibition, seminar, Individual specialised tutoring, collective specialised tutoring and non-face-to-face activities. To this end, regular meetings will be held between the coordinator of the degree and the teaching team in order to ensure continuous horizontal (within an academic year) and vertical (throughout the various courses) coordination of the subjects covered by the degree, as regards the design, type and relationship of the activities designed. Evaluation systems will also be extended, which may include, in addition to the final examination, participation by students in face-to-face activities and the preparation and/or presentation of work supervised by the teacher.
The student will be assigned a tutor whose role will be to guide and advise him in his personal curriculum planning.
