Taking into account their interests, and with the necessary advice of the Centre’s guidance system, the student studying this degree at the University of Cadiz must complete 60 elective credits according to the following options: courses to reinforce specific contents of the degree and modules oriented towards a specific curricular profile, or courses or training activities authorised by the University’s Governing Council, either from among those included in other degrees, or specifically designed and oriented towards their integral training. In this case, in order to enable joint programmes to be carried out, the student may start the 60 elective credits from the second academic year. In any case, students may apply for recognition of up to 6 credits for university activities: cultural, sports, student representation, solidarity and cooperation.
Without contradicting what is said in the previous paragraph and to allow training on specific itineraries of the Degree in Classical Philology, the optional credits for students are distributed in: a) 12 credits which extend the compulsory modules in Greek and Latin, and b) the remaining 18 credits are devoted to subjects related to the field of Hispanic philology, It extends compulsory training and provides the basis for one of the two proposed routes. The optional subjects offered by the centre aim to define the appropriate training for the end-of-studies profiles or courses approved by the Commission for the Degree in Classical Philology. These courses are among those recognized by the White Paper on the Bachelor’s Degree in Language Studies, Literature, Culture and Civilization, which has been approved by the ANECA, are composed of subjects that provide expertise in the field of classical culture and the relationship between teaching and publishing. Thus, the student can take the optativity (30 credits) as follows:

This programme is designed to complement the basic and compulsory training which gives the student access to a professional profile related to management and advice: literary and artistic criticism, cultural management in public and private bodies, the organization of trips and the development of materials related to tourism.
Teaching and publishing. This route has been designed to orient the student towards traditional research and teaching profiles, introducing the student in two specific fields of education which are those that constitute preferred job openings (teaching Spanish as L2 and teaching Spanish language and literature at ESO). This itinerary also includes other professional profiles related to Classical Philology: the publishing industry, cultural management and linguistic and intercultural mediation.
2) By taking four elective subjects, which form the module of one of the two itineraries provided for in the curriculum, and by awarding up to six credits to:
- completion of external work experience, up to a maximum of 6 credits, beyond those which may be compulsory
