Available material resources

Our Faculty, in coordination with the central body of the University of Cádiz, has made a very important effort in recent years to adapt its material resources and services to the new teaching needs. In this way, biennial improvement plans (action plan of 2005/2007 and action plan of 2007/2009) were made, whose main objective was the spaces adaptation to the new ones structures emanating from the European Higher Education Area.

Among its main goals were:

1) Equipment of all the classrooms with multimedia material.

2) The progressive change of fixed furniture of the classrooms by moveable furniture.

3) The adaptation of other spaces for teaching and academic use.

This effort must be evaluated very positively, since the Degree of compliance with these plans has been more than 80%. Thus, the center currently has 39 classrooms. All of them are equipped with multimedia table with computer, sound amplifier, microphones, inputs for USB and VGA port, movable screen and video projector.

The summary of the classrooms characteristics is:

In addition to the classrooms, our Faculty has other common spaces that are used by the different Degrees for the teaching and other academic activities development. It is interesting to highlight the Aula Magna, renovated in 2007, which has the latest advances in multimedia equipment, with a capacity for 320 people whose maintenance depends on the central services of the university. Its occupation level in recent years is the highest of all common spaces of the University of Cádiz, celebrating the main academic and institutional events.

The Faculty also has a Degrees Room (Salón de Grados) with 60 seats, two meeting rooms (Sala de Juntas) and a staff room.

Separate mention for the existence of spaces dedicated to teaching different from traditional classrooms. In this typology we can include:

1) Computer classroom with twenty seats used both for regulated teaching and for specific courses. In the hours not covered by teaching, the classroom is open to students.

The Library of Humanities is located in our Faculty, belonging to the library system of the University of Cádiz. This library is a section of the Library of the University of Cádiz that attends to the users needs in the Faculty of Human Sciences and Arts. It is a support to the teaching in all the Degrees that are taught: 8 Degrees (History, Humanities, Hispanic Philology, English Studies, Linguistics and Applied Languages, French Studies, Classical Philology and Arabic and Islamic Studies) and 3 Master’s Degrees (Gender, Identity and Citizenship, Hispanic Studies and Historical-Archaeological Heritage).

Its bibliographic collection is composed of more than 90,000 monographs of a multidisciplinary nature and more than 900 titles of periodical publications, covering mainly the thematic areas of Philology, History, Geography, Philosophy and Art. There is an abundant collection of special materials (CDs, cassettes, videos, microforms, etc …) that are located at the loan counter. The library is the depository of the funds acquired by the Vice-Rectorate of University Extension. Most of the library’s funds are located on the Main Floor, on open access shelves. In this plant, distributed by different spaces, there are also the study rooms with 205 individual reading posts. The books are arranged by subject following a systematic classification, and the magazines in alphabetical order. The funds located in the basement are not ordered by subject. The special material (diskettes, cd-rom, microfiche …) is located in the area of the loan counter, and must be requested from the staff. Among others, the library offers the following services: catalog consultation, electronic resources, user training, home loan, bibliographic information, interlibrary loan and microform reproduction and digitization.

Finally, note that the library has achieved the renewal of the Seal of Excellence 400+, awarded by the Club Excellence in Management (Club Excelencia en Gestión CEG) and the European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM), consolidating its path to excellence very widely in the management, and with a significant advance with respect to the previous evaluation.

Other notable spaces for the teaching and research activities development of the center are: office for the students delegation, a fellowship room and student associations room. All these spaces have adequate furniture and computer equipment.

Therefore, we can conclude that the resources and infrastructures with which the Degree is taught are adequate and sufficient to assure the theoretical and practical teaching excellence of all the activities programmed in the Master’s Degree.
