Degree in History – Teaching Plan – Objetives

Degree´s objectives

The teachings should provide students with a solid historical background. Therefore, the basic objective of the Degree in History is to prepare the student for the exercise of teaching and for professional activities that require a general History training. We understand that the teaching of History provides a rational and critical knowledge of the past so that the individual and the current society in which it is integrated can understand the present.

The student of History must obtain the basic knowledge about the main events and historical change processes, from a diachronic perspective from Prehistory to the present.

The competences that students must have acquired, and those required for the Degree, must be evaluable, observable and measurable in the learning outcomes. And they must move to the Curriculum.

General Objectives of the Degree:

  • Achieve a general instruction of the most relevant concepts, categories, theories and topics of the different branches of historical research.
  • Provide a rational and critical knowledge of the past of humanity, with the purpose that the student can understand the present and make it intelligible to others.
  • Acquire the ability to relate the past events and processes with those of the present and discern the way in which those influence them and guide the future.
  • Acquire a general knowledge of the events and change processes and continuity of humanity in a diachronic perspective (from Prehistory to the present world), spatial and comparative history.
  • Contribute to the critical recognition of historical and cultural diversity.
